Remember when going back to school meant getting a few notebooks, a fresh box of crayons, and new shoes? If you wore a uniform to school, you most likely got one of those too; otherwise, you still have 1 or 2 new outfits. That has been it.


Well, times have changed. The production list now contains items which was previously given by the schools – like scissors, glue and tissues. Every child needs a new backpack, notebooks, paper, pens (red, blue and black), glue sticks, ruler, tape, scissors, markers, folders plus a calculator. In case you have two children and you shop the sales, you’ll probably still find yourself spending greater than $100.00 in supplies alone. Which doesn’t even count the modern clothes your child “has to have” or even the fees that are necessary for art projects, lab costs, etc.

Don’t even get me moving on the supplies, including furniture and appliances, your kids needs for school. Should it ever end?

Here are some ideas for saving money on oil paints this year.

1) Recycle – Determine whatever you currently have in your own home. You almost certainly have assorted crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc. available the home. Put these together within a pencil box and that will help you save some dollars.

2) Re-use – Kids believe that last year’s backpack has got to go, however a quick trip with the washer can provide it new life.

3) Reduce – Does your kids use a notebook from a year ago that has three pages of written material in it and 77 blank pages left? Do you find this notebook in the recycle bin – or worse – the trash?
