Kaparkan Falls (also referred to as Mulawin Falls) is a limestone terraces hidden for hundreds of years in the landlocked province of Abra. This travertine rose to fame in 2015 when images of the terraced water gours were uploaded on the net.
Reaching Kaparkan Falls requires good mental and physical sturdiness. Positioned in a province 9-10 hours ride from Manila, this travertine paradise can only be reached through off-road vehicles. Sometimes, these tough vehicles carrying tourists even falter along the way. If you’re lucky that these monsters of car will not surrender, you should endure a harrowing, bumpy, and muscle numbing ride for some hours.
The “hell ride to paradise” gives you insights in the mountainous part of the province. You’ll recognize that limestones are scattered along mountain slopes. Caves in many cases are found under these terrains that is corroborated by the Libtec Crystal Collapse Dolores and Sibud-Sibud Collapse Tineg, maybe even more in most areas waiting to be discovered. Several trees such as duhat, banaba, etc. will even delight the visitors in addition to the picturesque plains and mountaintops.
The lands with the entrance in the falls can be a delight itself. There are picnic tables and benches within the trees. You can leave your bags on these tables. Your lunch and snacks needs to be taken and in the bradenton area as no foods are allowed in the water.
Walking further will lead you to definitely the breathtaking Kaparkan Falls. The falls covers a large water paradise [yeah, a kilometer!] until it drains towards the Tineg River.
The upper level contains shallow gours. This starts through the uppermost terraces, which are against the rules, until the gours draining to steep and several-meter high pools, just beneath the balite tree.
The reduced level has greater pool heights than these in the upper level. Further, there are parts of this level which can be tied to tourists unless associated with local guides.
The low level of the Karakan Falls needs a little bit of walking down a slope beneath the forest trees and bamboos on and on up following cascades to the balite tree.
