If Music Be the Food passion, how do you plan it to your Wedding?
Congratulations, you will get married….which is the great part!
Yes, however you must insurance policy for the marriage Date, Dress, Wedding Flowers, Ceremony Location, Venue, Rings, Food selection, Guests List, Seating Arrangements, Invitations, Honeymoon Plans, Limo’s, and so on. That is the not-so-great part!
The Wedding Planning experience could be both uplifting, and frustrating. It may often feel as if, “the best, and worst of times”, to explain Charles Dickens. You’ll find, countless decisions, so almost no time.
This article will address Wedding Music Entertainment, help you in your selection process, and hopefully reduce some stress.
Wedding Music Entertainment,…or not?
Unlike other aspects, Wedding Music Entertainment (Bands, DJ’s, Musicians) isn’t a “must have”, on your Special occasion. It can be truly an alternative.
So, for starters, do you desire Music regardless of the sort, on your Wedding?
If, “no”, you’ve got one less decision to make, stop reading… contributing to that Dress!
If, “yes”, we have a bit of work to do: do you need music on your:
A) Ceremony
B) Cocktail Hour
C) Reception
A, B and C,….or simply A,B, or C….. (you can find nine possibilities here)
Of course, if under consideration any of these, are you wanting Live Music (Musicians, Bands), or Recorded (DJ) Music?
Your wedding day Ceremony
Your Wedding Ceremony, will likely be essentially the most personal section of the perfect Day.
Live Musicians are preferred for Wedding Ceremonies. They increase the ambiance and emotional setting. And being human, as opposed to recorded Music, they can react quickly to adjustments to the environment.
For instance, as Wedding ceremony members, enter and leave, a ceremony area, Live Musicians can very naturally modify the music tempo (speed, feel, etc.), to keep in sync with changing walking steps (older folks usually walk slower, and young folks – particularly if nervous, walk faster). Watching an experienced Musician effortlessly perform it might be, is actually an art form by itself. (experienced DJ’s also can make this happen electronically with recorded music, nevertheless it just doesn’t feel as, “natural”).
Therefore, should you desire Ceremony Music of any kind, my suggestion, is Live Musicians (either solo, duo, or trio). And rather than classic organ, you may want to try different things….flute, harp, piano, violin, cello, horn, or guitar.
Also, if someone with your family members have musical talent, by all means invite the crooks to perform song…it gets an infinitely more memorable experience in your case, them, along with your guests.
The wedding Cocktail Hour
Wedding Cocktail Hours are usually given the least thought regarding music planning. Why? Well to start with, you (the Bridal Party) are normally not there (for some of it anyway). This time around (right after the Wedding Ceremony) is generally allotted for Picture taking with the Wedding Photographer….frequently within a different area. That’s all fine for the Wedding party, fresh fruits concerning your guests!
Either way people who attended the marriage Ceremony, and those that didn’t, the common meeting ground, pending your return from Picture taking, is the Cocktail Hour area. It’s here that they can, try an hors d’ oeuvre, use a drink, and start to mingle.
Now I might be described as a bit biased, but there’s nothing more inviting, than soothing music as you enters a space…it creates some, welcoming, ambiance. It sets the climate. It says on your guests, “yes, seriously in, there is a celebration happening in here”!
Which type of Cocktail Hour Music Entertainment should you for the guests?
Live Bands, unless a little Classical, or Jazz trio, could be, “overkill”, for a Cocktail Hour. A Solo Musician or DJ could be more modest.
We have attended great Cocktail Hours with Musicians, and great Cocktail Hours with DJ’s. It is again, very subjective, but a majority of people feel Musicians, often add a certain, “Elegance”…
A key point to consider is that this will be the “prep time” for the Reception. Until they’ve satisfied their hunger for food, drink and talk, most guests will not maintain a partying mood initially. This is fine, because remember, you’re not there! So when choosing Cocktail Hour Music, whether it is Live Musicians or even a DJ, maintain it, “low-key”, at this stage…nice background, easy listening melodies, no head-banging sounds, no less than, not.
Your wedding event
The Wedding party has finished picture taking, you and your guests have loosened up with 2 or two, so permit the Reception begin!
From that special first dance, before Party’s end, you need to want whether DJ or Live Band offering the Musical Entertainment.
Although some people might DJ’s are excellent at getting parties really hopping, Bands tend to be dynamic. And after all, nothing seems like Live Music. However, Bands can be extremely expensive. Especially, should there be over four members…you happen to be talking inside the “upper” thousands dollar range.
In addition to being more affordable (typically about 20 -25% the buying price of a Band), some DJ’s provide Karaoke Services, where guests can sing together with songs on stage, and have their, “moment of fame” (there is a least one “ham” at each party). It may be lots of fun for all, and creates some memorable photos.
So to sum up, while both Bands and DJ’s are good for Reception Music, if your finances are tight, DJ’s less complicated more affordable.
How you can select your own music Entertainment
By this point, you have made almost all of the Music Entertainment decisions to your Wedding. The next move is actual Entertainer selection (Musicians, Bands, or DJ’s).
Fortunately in your case, (not too for Entertainers), legislation of supply vs demand is at your favor…there are several to pick from.
Obviously, whenever possible, try to see, and/or hear, the Entertainers perform live, perhaps while attending a golf club, restaurant, or friend’s Wedding.
If you revel in their performance, don’t be shy about approaching them; most Entertainers have become friendly people, and definately will welcome your inquiry. Require a card, and when they would be inclined (or can be found) to execute to your event. Also many Musicians typically have their CD’s available, for the nominal charge, or sometimes complimentary.
Close to actually hearing Entertainers directly, recommendations from friends and family can be very helpful. You should be a bit skeptical, if a friend, of your friend, of the friend, carries a brother-in-law, that sometimes plays the tuba (or whatever). Ask just how long they’ve been performing, and ask for names of the latest performance venues. Also ask for a video or audio file of these work.
And naturally, almost always there is Google. Like anything else, searching for Musicians, or Bands or DJ’s locally, and have many sites. The thing is that every Entertainer’s website, will mention how wonderful, great, and spectacular these are; every site actually starts to look exactly the same. So how do you choose?
